Mike Shaver received his PhD degree from the University of British Columbia and was an NSERC Post-doctoral Fellow at Imperial College London.

He began his independent career in 2007 at the University of Prince Edward Island, moving as a Chancellor's Fellow and Reader to the School of Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh in 2012. His research interests focus on green materials and sustainable polymer synthesis, especially in the fields of controlling radical polymerisations and developing new monomers for (bio)degradable polymers and working with industry and academic collaborators to tackle challenging polymer synthesis problems. He has published over 60 papers, 6 patents and 50 conference lectures and was recently awarded the 2016 MacroGroup UK Young Research of the Year.
